At this point, you may notice that your masked image is a bit rough around the edges or is too wide, allowing some of the background to show through. Luckily, there is an easy way to smooth and redefine the edges of your mask.
Make sure the Layer Mask thumbnail is selected, then apply a slight blur to it. You just want a slight haze around the edges of your mask, if you go too far, things get too smooth and look unnatural. The image for this example was a 300 dpi image, you can see that a 1 pixel blur is not much.
After blurring the edges you can grow or shrink them using the Levels Adjustment. Moving the black slider makes the mask grow (less of the visible image at the edges), moving the white slider makes the mask shrink (more of the background shows through). Watch the hair as you move the sliders as the most pronounced effect occurs here. You can fine tune the edges by moving the midtone slider as well (usually puts more or less of a haze around the edges, good for when you want to get rid of a black fringe).
When your edges look good perfect, hit okay.
