The first step in editing your image is to get it lined up correctly. There is almost always an area you don't want in the picture and the picture is usually rotated slightly. The crop tool is used to simultaneously cut out and rotate the image.
- activate by clicking on the crop tool or pressing C
- tool bar options
- click and drag on the picture for the cropped area
- you can set tool bar options for fixed height and width as well as a new resolution
- after letting go a bounding box forms, this box can be adjusted by dragging the blocks on the sides and corners. Adjust rotation by moving outside the box. Move the box by clicking and dragging inside the box (just don't drag the anchor point or that will move instead).
- after you like what you see, press return to complete the crop.
- if you don't like it press esc and the bounding box will disappear
