Creating a new document
dimensions
when printing I usually set the dimensions to inches and when making an image for computer display I will use pixels.
for print, the output will always conform to the dimensions which you specified.
resolution
screen resolution is always 72 dpi and a 72 dpi image is displayed in the actual size on screen.
a 150 dpi image has twice the pixels per inch so it is displayed four times the actual dimensions.
a 300 dpi image is displayed at eight times the actual size, etc.
for computer output use 72 dpi, print 150-300, for fine detailed work the higher resolution the better
contents (the color of the first layer)
I usually set it to transparent
